For White People who Need a Lightning-round History Intervention Following the Murder of George Floyd

This slideshow is not exhaustive, not even close. A better resource is Ibram X. Kendi’s book Stamped from the Beginning. He also has a YA version, co-written with Jason Reynolds called Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism, and You as well as a picture book called Antiracist Baby

A few quick reminders:

I, too, am white. I am heartsick, exhausted, and so sad about what’s happened in the last few weeks. My family is DOING – donating, comforting, thinking. In this slide show, I am taking my role as an educator as seriously as I can by saying something I can say… in the hopes of alleviating the “explaining” burden from people of color who are already doing plenty enough of the antiracism work.

I’ve actively tried to eliminate the colonizer/enslaver bias on which so much American history depends. In places where I’ve messed up, please let me know and I will happily apologize and correct it.
